What it is
Building a casino stream scene in OBS means placing a dozen browser sources by hand, then doing it again on your other machine, and again when you change anything. The layout editor moves that arrangement to the web: you position every widget on a canvas, save it, and OBS holds one browser source.
The canvas is your actual stream resolution, so what you arrange is what renders. Widgets snap to a grid, carry their own settings, and can be layered.
Changing the layout changes the stream immediately — there is no re-export and nothing to re-add in OBS.

The saved layout has a single URL. Add it once as a full-screen browser source and every widget inside it is positioned exactly as you arranged it.
That also means moving to a new PC is one paste rather than an evening of re-placing sources.
Backgrounds and multiple scenes
Layouts can carry an animated or flat background, which is useful for starting-soon and be-right-back screens that would otherwise be separate scenes with their own assets.
You can keep several layouts and mark one active. A generic URL always points at whichever is currently active, so switching scenes doesn't mean editing OBS.
Starting from something
Published templates give you a working arrangement to modify rather than an empty canvas, which is usually the difference between setting a layout up and meaning to.
Every widget in the editor has the same settings it has standalone — fonts, colours, sizes, visible items — so a layout isn't a lesser version of the individual widgets.
Resolution and the live URL
Each layout is built for a fixed canvas — 1080p, 1440p or your own size — and the editor renders it at exactly that pixel size, so what you place is what OBS shows, with no scaling surprises.
OBS points at one active-layout URL. Switching which layout is active swaps the whole scene without touching a browser source, so you can keep a hunt layout, a chill layout and a giveaway layout and move between them from the dashboard.
